The Phoenix Award

Currently in development, an award scheme to actively encourage mainstream drug services in Greater London to provide chemsex support for GBMSM to a minimum standard:

  • Chemsex poster, LGBT+ health and wellbeing poster and rainbow flag sticker
    eg: reception, waiting room , communal space
  • Harm reduction resources: Safer pack, online links, service flyer/ equiv.Β 
    eg: through service, online link, print
  • Safer injecting pack or equivalent freely available to clients
    eg: fixed needle syringes, swabs, spoons, sharps disposal, gloves, condoms, lube
  • Clearly defined support pathway/ options presented to clients orally and in writing
    eg: dedicated key worker, treatment, mental health, sexual health, referral, groups
  • Chemsex training for relevant staff by established provider/ subject matter expert(s) inc. the 3Cs: Culture, Context, Competence
    eg: GMHC, Antidote, Club Drug Clinic, or equiv.
  • A nominated chemsex lead and a deputy to monitor scheme on behalf of service and liaise with GMHC
    ie: name and email address.
  • Chemsex content on service website
    ie: paragraph and/ or page
  • Service has micro elimination status
    ie: NHSE target to eliminate HCV through in defined populations
  • Every client offered triple BBV screening.
    ie: HIV, HCV, HBV
  • Reporting mechanism for LGBT+/ chemsex work to commissioners
    ie: Service to proactively supply LGBT+ activity (inc. chemsex) to commissioners

As part of of accreditation, there is a 50 question oral test on to assess cultural and contextual competence.Β 

Awarded services will be highlighted on the health and wellbeing website MENRUS.CO.UK, promoted regularly on social media, and listed on the Award Scheme page at GMHC.CO.UK
