In keeping with our holistic approach to health, we have produced a range of QR coded health cards on a wide range of health and wellbeing topics drawn from MENRUS.CO.UK
Topics
They include, in no particular order, gerbils, washing dick, catfishing, shigella, measuring ‘G’, neurodiversity, safer chemsex, friends (and shit friends), naloxone, staying hard (erections), perineum (not a flower), housing and sofa surfing, antibiotics, lubricants, prostate, relationships, heteronormativity, cock rings, porn, pelvic floor, buying drugs (contamination), cleaning bed sheets from cum, gas lighting, ketamine, cruising, hepatitis C test and treat, surviving Christmas, finding a counsellor, fisting, and disco three club (gonorrhoea, syphilis, and chlamydia). More are included monthly with a view to reaching 52, a pack of cards – but that’s another project.
The thinking
A novel way of engaging gay and queer men in their health and wellbeing, particularly in the way the artwork relates to the content. The cards use curiosity, humour, direct language and recognisable experiences to start conversations that more formal health promotion often struggles to reach. They also allow us to integrate safer chemsex into broader health promotion, rather than treating it as a standalone or exceptional issue. This reflects the GMHC and MENRUS.CO.UK approach: chemsex sits alongside sex, relationships, mental health, housing, stigma, pleasure, risk, and everyday wellbeing. It should come as no surprise, several topics have been flagged by social media even though the topics are pertinent health and wellbeing issues.
Distribution
The cards are distributed in racks through scene venues, and services.
